2024 Perry Awards Official Guidelines

GENERAL INFO

The Awards: The Perry Awards is an annual celebration of the vast and diverse contribution made by the exceptional, talented and committed fans of Katy Perry – the Katycats – within the past year that provided the fandom with excellent entertainment, informative insights and unmatched artistic showcase which not only put the fandom in a higher regard within the community of stans in social media, but also uplifted the image and persona of the ever-kind, inspiring and richly talented artist, Katheryn Hudson.

Eligibility Period: In general, works that were made, released and/or published within January 01, 2023 to December 31, 2023 will qualify for this year’s Perry Awards. Some categories, however, provide exceptions that could qualify works that were made prior to said eligibility period, as deemed fit by The Academy, so as to fully capture outstanding works that were highlighted/given just attention only within the past year.

Works: The Academy collectively refers to every eligible entry to the awards as a “work”. The Academy welcomes various types of digital and physical “work” that comes in different formats such as accounts/pages, tweets, videos, photos, fanarts, drawings, digital outputs, costumes, writings and recordings to name a few. All works must be ORIGINAL in nature. Works that were stolen/copied/taken credit from other people without their expressed consent will be deemed ineligible. Exceptions may apply to some works that followed a popular theme (i.e. copied the format of a viral tweet/photo edit/video). All works need to be publicly accessible. Works that were made through a collaborative effort will be credited up to three (3) recipients, with one being the Katycat entrant.

Academy Members:  Members of the Prismatic Arts and Stan Sciences are those who have previously registered as member from the first five award ceremonies, and consequently, those who have been nominated for and awarded with a Perry Award. They enjoy the privilege of being selected to be part of the Nominations Committee and/ or access to vote for the final round of winner selection of this year’s Perrys. To protect their anonymity and independence to vote base on genuine free will, The Academy will not publicly release the names of its members. However members are not forbidden to reveal themselves as part of the Academy. Every Katycat is eligible to be a member, but as Academy Members, they are bounded by an expectation to act maturely and responsibly in the universe of social media fandom. The Academy can revoke membership to any member who is deemed contrary to the attributes that represents a role model to the Katycat group or those that are disruptive to fandom harmony and projects harmful attitudes (i.e. bullying/ smear campaigning to name a few) towards others.

Who is a Katycat?: The Academy, with its high and hopeful aspiration to unrestrictedly welcome everyone who adores Katy Perry into the occasion with open arms, unfortunately bears the responsibility to keep the occasion as a celebration of the fandom’s fanaticism to Katy Perry. Thus to protect it from being infiltrated by hateful individuals/groups targeting the fandom, its members or Katheryn herself, we are inclined to put a litmus test to determine whether an account submitting their works or registering for membership is truly a Katycat. In order to be deemed a Katycat (for awards purposes only), an account must meet SIX characteristics in the following set of criteria:

  • Account must have a Katy Perry-related username
  • Account must have a Katy Perry-related layout/profile photo
  • Account must follow Katy Perry (@katyperry)
  • Account must follow at least three prominent and well-established Katy Perry pages
  • Account must have a pinned tweet related to Katy Perry content
  • Account must have tweeted a positive* Katy Perry content within the most recent week of registration as Katycat
  • Account must be mutuals with at least two other (certified) Katycats

Accounts that are deemed suspicious will be notified and can contest their eligibility until the Submissions deadline.

HOW A PERRY WINNER IS DETERMINED?

Step One: Submissions

Those who wish to participate in the award ceremony must submit either as an entrant and/or as a voter. Entrants should submit before the deadline, otherwise their submissions will not be considered. Voters need to accomplish casting their votes before the deadline, otherwise their votes will no be counted. Submissions particularly takes up the most time within the whole award season due to the fact that some works impose a challenge in retrieval, depending on recency and availability of resources. All submissions must be made in the official WordPress site, not through directly messaging the Academy or its members.

Note: Entrants can submit for themselves AND for other people. We advice however, that you make it known for other parties that you are submitting their work for consideration to save time when they refuse to be involved in the awards and requests to be removed from the pool of nominees, if they get nominated. There is no limit on the number of submissions per category per entrant, but we would like to remind you that more entries submitted can split the votes allocated to you and may put you with a lesser chance of being nominated/winning.

Step Two: Filtration

Once submission closes, the Academy put together all works into their submitted categories and present them in an orderly manner to the Nomination Committee who will vote for nominees. But before that, The Academy will examine whether a work is 1) eligible , 2) submitted in the right category and 3) the entrant’s original work. Ineligible works and works that were stolen from others are automatically discarded from the pool. Wrongfully categorized works will be realigned to their respective rightful categories.

Step Three: Nominations

Once properly assessed, Academy Members who were chosen to be part of the Nominations Committee will be given a link to their voting ballots which will help them vote on who should be the nominees in each categories. Academy Members are strictly forbidden to share this link to the public. Unlike the final voting in which members only chooses one, during nominations, they will vote for their Top 8/Top 10 picks in each category. Works that collectively get the most votes will proceed to be nominees.

Note: Any nominee may request to be removed from the awards and the Academy will openly grant such request without hesitation. In this case, the spot will be filled by a new nominee.

Step Four: The Blue Ribbon Committee

In order to avoid the element of popularity from being a dominant factor in determining nominations, a Blue Ribbon Committee will be given a voting right in choosing nominees. Unlike the usual system of Member voting, the Blue Ribbon will choose not only from the submitted works, but also from a predetermined set of quality works that the Academy has saved and pooled together within the past year that were deemed worthy of being considered for nominations, chosen regardless of popularity, impressions or ratio count of the owner of such works. The Blue Ribbon’s choice(s) automatically land(s) a nomination.

Step Five: Academy Voting

Once nominees are announced, Academy Members, as part of their privilege, are given a week of access to the voting site. Academy members are encouraged to vote only once. Only one vote per category at a time. The nominees with the most votes will be announced as the winner on the Awards Night. In case of a tie, both will be deemed winners. In case of a rare triple tie, the Blue Ribbon Committee will cast the determining vote. Winners will automatically get followed by The Academy on Twitter and will become Members of the Academy, if they are still aren’t followed and afforded membership.
